The City Boy Movement has responded to criticism following the appearance of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, at their recent state chapter inauguration. A video showing the Commissioner at the Ikeja event circulated online, leading to public concern about potential political partiality ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bashir Ahmad, the group’s National Director for Media Monitoring and Rapid Response, clarified that the officer’s attendance should not be viewed as a political endorsement. He explained that law enforcement officials frequently attend various public gatherings—including religious, professional, and political events—to ensure security and maintain order as part of their official mandate.
Ahmad emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional duty to protect all citizens and organizations. He argued that equating a security presence with institutional bias is inaccurate, noting that the police must remain neutral. The City Boy Movement stated that they value the independence of security agencies and do not seek special treatment, asserting that they simply expect the protection of their rights as a law-abiding organization.
