The Abia State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Representative Chris Nkwonta issue a formal apology within two weeks. The leadership accuses both lawmakers of engaging in anti-party activities by publicly endorsing the 2027 gubernatorial re-election of Labour Party Governor Alex Otti.
Following a meeting of the State Working Committee on August 10, 2026, the party leadership stated that these endorsements violate the APC Constitution. Chairman Chijioke Chukwu noted that Kalu predicted an Otti victory during a televised interview, while Nkwonta reportedly promised his vote to the incumbent governor during a visit by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to Akwete.
The APC leadership labeled these public statements as unacceptable, noting they conflict with the party’s goal of securing a gubernatorial victory in 2027. Citing Article 21.2 (11) of the 2022 APC Constitution, the committee warned that failure to apologize will trigger an official investigation by a disciplinary panel. The party emphasized that all members must maintain loyalty to the organization regardless of their political standing or legislative position.
