Law enforcement officers in Delta State recently captured seven individuals suspected of cult activities, while also seizing several weapons. The suspects are Promise Esenjor, Wisdom Victor, James Wisdom, Chinedu Munonye, Onyemakonor Collins, Unah Oluchi, and Azomani Favour, ranging in age from 20 to 26.
Acting on reliable tips, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided a location in Issele-Uku on July 27, 2026. According to Police Public Relations Officer Edafe Bright, the group admitted to belonging to the Maphite Confraternity. Authorities confiscated a double-barrel shotgun, live ammunition, a cutlass, a beret associated with the group, and several mobile phones.
In a separate incident on the same day, police from the Abraka Division interrupted a meeting of suspected criminals on Omono Road. Although most fled the scene, officers captured 27-year-old Wale Morakinyo. Two homemade pistols and four cartridges were found in his possession. The police are currently working to locate the remaining individuals who escaped.
Delta State Police Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi emphasized the department’s dedication to using intelligence to combat violent crime and cultism. He also requested that residents continue to report suspicious activity to help maintain security in the region.
