The Lagos State government is launching a new program to provide unique vehicle license plates for people with disabilities. This project aims to boost accessibility and simplify travel for residents throughout the region. The plan is a joint venture between the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA).
During a planning session, MVAA Permanent Secretary Abdulrasheed Muri-Okunola noted that these plates support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s goal of inclusive governance. The agency has already opened talks with the Federal Road Safety Corps to finalize the administrative requirements for the new system.
LASODA General Manager Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal clarified that the initiative is designed to serve individuals with various disabilities, as well as their caregivers and parents. By implementing these plates, the state hopes to improve how authorities identify and assist this demographic on the road. The initiative remains consistent with the Lagos State Special People’s Law, which serves to protect the rights of those with disabilities and foster an equitable environment.
