The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding the swift suspension of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani. This call follows his attendance at an event the party characterizes as a partisan gathering linked to the 2027 presidential election cycle.
In a formal statement released Tuesday, the NDC alleged that the commissioner breached the standard of impartiality required by the Nigeria Police Force. The controversy stems from a viral video capturing the official at a function hosted by the City Boy Movement, a group known for supporting President Bola Tinubu. The party argues that such visibility creates serious doubt regarding the commissioner’s capacity to oversee electoral duties without bias.
The NDC has petitioned the Police High Command to initiate disciplinary measures, including immediate suspension. They contend that the official’s actions have diminished the reputation of the police force. Furthermore, the opposition party has called for the commissioner’s resignation, while urging national police leadership to ensure all officers remain neutral, protect voters of all backgrounds, and guarantee safety for every political organization during the upcoming polls.
