Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has thrown his full weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform for the 2027 general elections, reaffirming that the alliance is rooted in putting Nigerians first.

In a Thursday post on his X handle, Obi emphasized that the decision to adopt the ADC followed “deep reflection” on Nigeria’s worsening state and the pressing need for transformative leadership.

“This move wasn’t made lightly,” Obi said, stressing that the coalition seeks to deliver leadership marked by competence, compassion, and national interest.

The coalition, which includes heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, formally adopted the ADC on Wednesday at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola were announced as interim National Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

Obi reiterated the importance of unity among opposition groups, stating, “No single entity can change Nigeria alone. To break the systems trapping our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges—even uneasy ones.”

He pledged a collective commitment to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration at the 2027 polls and steer the nation toward a new, people-centric political future.
