Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, the leader of the Kano State Inter-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, has issued a firm warning to politicians. He stated that he will not tolerate any attempts to influence the release of detained criminals or drug offenders. During a session with media representatives on Tuesday, Rimin-Gado emphasized that the task force remains committed to impartial operations and will not be swayed by political figures.
He clarified that the only individual authorized to direct the release of a suspect is Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Rimin-Gado noted that such a directive from the Governor would essentially function as a request for his own resignation. The task force was created following the Governor’s July 22 declaration of a public health emergency regarding drug abuse.
The agency’s primary objectives include apprehending drug traffickers, curbing substance abuse, and ensuring offenders face justice. Rimin-Gado identified traffickers as the primary threat to the state, citing police data that links 70 percent of 2025’s major crimes to drug usage. To combat this, the committee plans to dismantle criminal gangs and enforce a five-year minimum prison sentence for members of outlawed groups.
The Chairman encouraged community participation, intelligence-led policing, and active parental guidance to foster a safer environment. He concluded by calling on media outlets and local leaders to assist in the ongoing campaign against state-wide substance abuse.
