The Plateau State Police Command has taken four individuals into custody regarding the fatal mob attack on Jos model Ibrahim Mbaya, known locally as Ibee. Police are currently searching for two additional suspects involved in the incident. Public Relations Officer DSP Alfred Alabo reported that the investigation began after a witness notified authorities that a victim had been hospitalized following a violent assault. Despite medical efforts, Mbaya eventually passed away from his injuries.
Authorities identified two of the detainees as Emmanuel Newyear, who was reportedly seen striking the victim with a wooden plank, and Joshua Tell. Investigators revealed that six individuals participated in the attack, all of whom shared an academic background. This connection led the National Association of Nigerian Students to coordinate with law enforcement to support the ongoing pursuit of the remaining fugitives.
The police have reiterated their commitment to securing justice for the deceased while issuing a stern warning against vigilantism. Officials urged the public to report crimes to the proper authorities rather than resorting to mob action. Residents with relevant information are encouraged to come forward, with the police promising strict confidentiality. The incident has triggered widespread indignation in Jos, with various groups demanding accountability for the violence.
