The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has firmly reiterated that Ifeanyi Ejiofor is no longer permitted to act as the organization’s lawyer. This follows a formal termination issued by Nnamdi Kanu, the group’s supreme leader, from the Sokoto Correctional Centre. While Ejiofor claims his role was restored by certain leadership factions, IPOB’s official spokesperson, Emma Powerful, dismissed these assertions as fraudulent.
IPOB maintains that the documents supporting Ejiofor’s reinstatement are invalid because they were purportedly authorized by Chika Edoziem and other individuals who have been expelled from the movement. The group emphasized that these ousted members lack the authority to appoint legal representatives on behalf of IPOB. According to the organization, Nnamdi Kanu holds exclusive power to appoint or remove officers, and his decision to fire Ejiofor remains final.
Furthermore, IPOB accused Ejiofor of professional negligence, alleging that his failures during court proceedings contributed significantly to Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing detention. The organization specifically pointed to Ejiofor’s handling of civil stay of execution applications and his unauthorized interactions with the Department of State Services as evidence of compromise. IPOB dismissed claims that Kanu’s termination letter was unauthenticated, noting it was notarized in Sokoto. The group stated that any attempt by Ejiofor to represent them is rejected, maintaining that he is permanently removed from all legal responsibilities associated with the movement.
