The Accord Party is pushing for the arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi. The party claims that the senator, representing Osun East, encouraged violence against its members in Ijeshaland during a campaign event. This accusation stems from a viral video that has sparked concerns regarding voter safety as the Osun governorship election approaches.
Joseph Omorogbe, the National Publicity Secretary for Accord, condemned the remarks as unacceptable. The party has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services to intervene immediately. Accord argues that political competition should not justify threats against the lives of citizens.
Beyond the alleged threats, the party reported that over 60 of its members have been detained in Abuja and Nasarawa. Accord views these arrests as a deliberate strategy to exclude its supporters from the electoral process. They further alleged that these actions involve collusion between specific political factions and law enforcement agencies.
The party has reached out to international observers, including the European Union, the United Nations, and regional bodies like ECOWAS, to monitor the situation. Accord maintains that the election should be a peaceful exercise of democratic rights rather than a conflict. They urged the public to support their candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, emphasizing that no political ambition justifies the loss of life.
