Afeez Olatunji Adewale, 27, has received a 60-month prison sentence in the United States. He was convicted for his involvement in wire fraud and money laundering schemes linked to a sextortion case that resulted in the death of a young man from Pennsylvania.
United States District Judge Joel H. Slomsky handed down the sentence, which includes three years of post-release supervision. Adewale was extradited from Nigeria in February 2026 and admitted his guilt in April. He is the final defendant of three involved in this criminal operation to be sentenced.
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf confirmed the conclusion of the prosecution, stating that the Department of Justice remains dedicated to tracking down international offenders who exploit American youth. The FBI collaborated with Nigerian authorities and the Abington Township Police Department to apprehend Adewale in August 2023.
Other participants in the scheme also faced severe penalties. Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 26, received a five-year sentence in June 2025, while Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 27, was sentenced to six years in October 2025 for his leadership in the extortion and cyberstalking activities. Law enforcement officials emphasized that these convictions highlight the success of cross-border cooperation in fighting digital crime.
