Armed criminals seized 13 travelers from a commercial bus on the Jos-Kano road in the Doguwa area of Kano State. Kano police officers intervened shortly after the Sunday afternoon assault, resulting in a firefight that freed 10 individuals.
The attack happened around 5:30 pm near the Folgore Forest region. According to police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Doguwa Divisional Police Officer received reports that a Toyota Hiace traveling from Jos had been intercepted. Five assailants wielding weapons had surrounded the bus and forced 13 of the 20 passengers into the forest.
Officers quickly reached the location and engaged the gunmen. Their efforts led to nine people being immediately saved, while another hostage managed to flee his captors independently. Sadly, two women and one man remain missing.
The rescued travelers were transported to Doguwa General Hospital where they are reported to be in stable condition. Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the public for their assistance and promised that search efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining captives and bring the attackers to justice.
