An armed group disguised in military fatigues assaulted the Unguwan Lalle community in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, resulting in at least four deaths and multiple injuries. The raid commenced late Sunday evening around 8 p.m. and persisted until early Monday morning. During this six-hour span, the assailants ransacked local residences and businesses while stealing livestock.
Witnesses estimated the group size at approximately 200 members. These attackers approached from multiple sides, tricking locals into believing they were legitimate security forces. One local stated that the villagers were initially deceived by the military-style attire, leading them to stay put until the group began firing on anyone attempting to flee. The attack followed an earlier incident involving the death of a local farmer, which had prompted a military patrol to visit the area earlier that day. The soldiers had departed shortly before the larger raid began.
DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police, verified that a farmer was killed on Sunday but stated he had no official information regarding the later attack on the community.
