Akwa Ibom Police Dismantle Illegal Gun-Making Operation

Akwa Ibom police have arrested three suspects and seized manufacturing tools after uncovering an illegal firearms production syndicate.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully dismantled an illicit firearms manufacturing ring, leading to the detention of three individuals. DSP Timfon John, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed in a Monday press release in Uyo that the suspects are Miracle Udo, Edet Okon, and Kufre Stephen.

Police conducted a strategic, intelligence-led operation on July 24, 2026, capturing 27-year-old Miracle Udo in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. Authorities discovered a locally made double-barrel shotgun in his possession. Udo implicated Edet Okon as his supplier during questioning, which eventually allowed detectives to track down 35-year-old Kufre Stephen, who is suspected of being the primary manufacturer.

Upon searching the premises, officers seized various tools and components utilized to create these weapons. The command is currently pursuing a welder believed to be an accomplice, aiming to completely neutralize the criminal network.
