Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Samuel Ekerenam, a well-known businessman and owner of Hephzibah Mall in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the shopping complex, firing sporadically to disperse people.

A witness, Udobong Asuquo, recounted that during the attack, Ekerenam’s driver was shot dead, while his police escort sustained serious injuries.

A family source, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the kidnappers have not yet made contact with the family.

He said, “We are yet to ascertain the motive of the kidnappers whether the man was seized for ransom or other motive because they are yet to contact the family.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident, said, “The Commissioner of Police (CP), Joseph Eribo, has zero tolerance for crimes, and had since deployed tactical operatives to comb for the abducted businessman.”
