Law enforcement officials in Plateau State have apprehended a suspected kidnapper and seized an AK-47 rifle during an operation in the Bokkos Local Government Area. This move is part of a broader strategy to curb rising criminal behavior in the region.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the Bokkos Division conducted a targeted raid on the morning of Sunday, June 21. They intercepted 45-year-old Riwa Usman near Langshi Village in the Ampang East district.
Usman, who identifies as being from Gargadi Village in Bauchi State, claimed he was transporting cattle from Doka Village when he was detained. A search of his motorcycle revealed an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a cutlass, and a knife.
Police are currently holding the suspect for further questioning as they work to track the origin of the weapon and identify any accomplices. Plateau State Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah stressed that the force remains dedicated to working with local communities and security partners to restore order. The command continues to encourage citizens to report suspicious activity to help maintain public safety.
