Sam Amadi, who leads the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for terminating the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) well before the 2027 general elections. During a discussion on Arise Television this past Sunday, Amadi argued that the registration period ought to stay active until one month prior to the polls. While he acknowledged the advancements made by the electoral body, he noted that the agency continues to rely on archaic administrative methods.
Amadi emphasized that stopping registration seven months ahead of the vote is illogical. This policy disenfranchises many young citizens reaching the age of 18 shortly before the election, effectively barring them from voting until the subsequent cycle. INEC recently confirmed the conclusion of the CVR phase on July 26, having encouraged all qualified Nigerians to finalize their registration or modify their existing records before the deadline.
