Council to Arrest Parents of Children Found Hawking During School Hours
Dr. Eric Odo, Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, has vowed to arrest parents whose children or wards are found hawking goods during school hours.
Speaking on Monday, November 25, during the inauguration of the Public School Supervision Committee (PSSC), Odo emphasized his commitment to improving public schools in the area and tackling the out-of-school syndrome.
He tasked the PSSC with ensuring that out-of-school children are enrolled back in school, with the council providing necessary materials such as uniforms, bags, and sandals to support the effort.
Odo stressed that there is no reason for any child to be out of school.
“Children must go back to school and school must return to what it was. We will treat any sick child and provide one meal per day for pupils, if need be,” he said.
Dr. Eric Odo then warned that parents who send their children to hawk goods during school hours, instead of ensuring they are in school, would face prosecution.
