WAFCON 2026: Day One Match Summaries

Host nation Morocco began their WAFCON 2026 campaign with a 4-0 win against Kenya, while Algeria defeated Senegal 2-0.

Tournament hosts Morocco started the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 4-0 victory over Kenya this Sunday in Rabat. Ibtissam Jraïdi led the charge with two goals, supported by strikes from Sakini Ouzraoui Diki and Maryame Atiq, giving the Atlas Lionesses a comfortable three-goal cushion by the break.

In other matches, Algeria secured a 2-0 win against Senegal. Captain Marine Dafeur opened the scoring from the penalty spot just before halftime following a foul on Amira Braham. Newcomer Melissa Bethi added a late second goal in the 88th minute to seal the result.

Looking ahead, Kenya will meet Senegal on Thursday, while Morocco prepares for a local derby against Algeria. Group B action continues on Monday with South Africa facing Tanzania and Ivory Coast meeting Burkina Faso.
