Tadej Pogacar has officially joined the ranks of cycling legends by winning the Tour de France for the fifth time, matching the records set by icons such as Eddy Merckx and Miguel Indurain. The 27-year-old Slovenian rider crossed the finish line in Paris comfortably within the main group to solidify his legacy.
The concluding stage of the competition, held on the cobblestones of Paris, saw a victory for Mathieu van der Poel of the Netherlands. He managed to edge out Denmark’s Mads Pedersen in a high-speed sprint after a demanding race that featured a revised route due to regional wildfires.
Pogacar’s dominance throughout this year’s race included four individual stage wins, including an impressive performance on the Alpe d’Huez. While he remains widely viewed as the top cyclist in the world, his overwhelming success has sparked some debate among fans regarding the competitive balance of the sport.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, Pogacar credited his family and his team for their unwavering support.
