Senator Rufai Sani Hanga of the Kano Central Senatorial District has started meeting with key political partners and district leaders. These discussions occur during growing rumors that he might join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hanga recently gathered coordinators from all 15 local government areas in his district to review his political direction and gather feedback. According to his official social media update, the dialogue centered on pressing political concerns and the status of his current movement.
The senator, who previously moved away from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) associated with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, utilized the session to update grassroots leaders on shifting political circumstances. He explicitly asked for their input on his future, including the prospect of switching political parties.
While Hanga has not publicly named a new party, his actions follow a trend of political shifting in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections. He was initially elected to the Senate representing the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before various transitions through other political groups. His recent talks followed private discussions with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and APC National Chairman Yilwatda.
Contrasting these reports, Kano NNPP Chairman Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa claims Hanga has reaffirmed his commitment to the Kwankwasiyya movement, stating that the senator personally promised him he would not abandon Kwankwaso.
