The Lagos State Government has shut down more than 20 properties situated in the Ikeja Local Government Area. This action was taken due to multiple violations of physical planning regulations as officials move to ensure full adherence to state laws.
Led by the Permanent Secretary for the Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Olayinka Wasiu, and LASPPPA General Manager, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, the operation targeted various sites including unfinished construction projects, land parcels, and buildings featuring illegal structural additions. These properties were identified as being in direct opposition to established state planning statutes.
Wasiu emphasized that this move is a preventative strategy intended to stop potential building collapses and foster organized urban growth. He noted that all owners of the shuttered sites had been previously notified of their infractions and were given opportunities to rectify their status prior to the closure. Property developers are strongly encouraged to secure all necessary permits before starting construction or making modifications to existing buildings to support the government’s vision of a safer, more sustainable metropolis.
