The Lagos State government has shut down more than 20 properties situated in the Ikeja Local Government Area, citing various physical planning violations. This enforcement action was executed by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) as part of a mission to curb illicit building practices and enforce strict development standards.
The targeted sites consist of empty lots, incomplete construction projects, and buildings that underwent unauthorized extensions. State officials confirmed these details in a social media update on Friday. The operation was managed by Olayinka Wasiu, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, working alongside LASPPPA General Manager Kehinde Osinaike.
This initiative falls under the state’s initiative to manage urban growth and protect land meant for public infrastructure. Authorities are currently conducting a statewide project known as SCRAMP, which tracks the use of common areas and roadsides to prevent illegal land appropriation. According to Wasiu, these measures are vital for preventing potential building failures, fostering organized city growth, and upholding the Lagos State Physical Planning Law.
Before the enforcement teams moved in, the owners of the impacted sites received formal notices detailing how they could bring their properties into compliance. Wasiu emphasized that developers must secure all required permits and official approvals prior to starting construction. The ministry intends to continue its oversight efforts to ensure that the urban environment remains safe and orderly for all residents.
