Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, who previously served as the Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, claims he risks being detained for revealing the realities of Nigeria’s current governance. During the third memorial lecture for General Hassan Usman Katsina held in Kaduna, he emphasized that both the North and the nation at large are grappling with severe difficulties.
He blamed current northern leaders for disregarding the core principles established by the region’s ancestors. According to Al-Mustapha, everyone from everyday citizens to the elite recognizes that the condition of Nigeria and the North is dire. He argued that only true patriots have the courage to address these issues openly.
The former officer also expressed frustration regarding the low attendance of northern governors at the memorial, suggesting that the event’s theme regarding strategy and sacrifice should have been a priority. He stated that these leaders lack the vision, selflessness, and strategic planning necessary for national progress. Finally, while addressing a representative of President Bola Tinubu, he characterized the current political system as deeply flawed and signaled his readiness to handle any potential repercussions for his candid remarks.
