Soldiers under the command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA are working to recover Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, following his abduction by armed militants. The incident occurred on July 25, 2026, when attackers raided his residence, overwhelming local security personnel and taking both the chairman and several family members.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, spokesperson for the operation, reported that military forces reached the scene following reports of gunfire. A confrontation ensued, leading the kidnappers to release five family members, including the chairman’s wife, children, and mother. Despite the military’s efforts, the gunmen managed to retreat into the nearby brush with Mr. Abdullahi.
Tragically, the raid resulted in fatalities, including two police officers and one vigilante who attempted to stop the abduction. Another civilian was killed in the chaos, and the chairman’s brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries. Currently, a coalition consisting of the Nigerian military, police, DSS, and local vigilantes is combing the region to locate the chairman. Authorities have pledged to exhaust all resources to secure his safe return and have requested that the public stay calm and share any relevant information with security agencies.
