Mkpisong Samuel Udonsak, the President-General of the Ekid People’s Union, has renewed his request for Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State to intervene in the case of Princess God’sOwn Udoito. She has been held since January 2026 due to accusations of defaming the governor.
Although the Calabar Appeal Court recently affirmed a High Court ruling that denied Udoito bail, citing the severity of the charges and potential flight risk, the EPU continues to push for her freedom. The court’s ruling did, however, demand an expedited trial process.
Udonsak highlighted that Udoito has already offered an apology to the governor. He argued that the situation warrants a display of mercy. With various leaders and organizations supporting this plea, the union president stated that it is time for the governor to move past the incident. He emphasized the humanitarian need for Udoito to be freed so she can manage her familial responsibilities, including the burial of her father and the care of her children.
