Sam Amadi, the head of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, recently argued that certain Nigerian military leaders need to face accountability for the nation’s ongoing security struggles. During an appearance on the Arise Television program Prime Time, the former NERC Chairman expressed his perspective on President Bola Tinubu’s decision to increase the size of the Nigerian Army.
Amadi suggested that simply enlarging the military will not resolve fundamental security flaws. He emphasized that corruption within military ranks negatively impacts operational efficiency and public confidence. According to Amadi, institutional corruption is a significant barrier to effectively managing the country’s crises. He further noted that the misuse of soldiers for non-military tasks, such as patrolling roads, highlights a deeper strategic failure in addressing the widespread criminal activity currently affecting Nigeria.
