Soldiers serving with the Nigerian Army successfully prevented a potential terrorist attack by locating and securing a command-wire improvised explosive device (IED) hidden under a road in Kanguri, a village located in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. Details of the operation were released Friday evening by security expert Zagazola Makama.
Personnel from the 149 Battalion encountered the device around 3:00 p.m. while providing protection for a Mine Risk Group team traveling from Maiduguri. The unit was assisting in the recovery of two vehicles previously disabled by a separate Boko Haram explosive incident on July 4.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attached to the 149 Battalion managed to retrieve the device safely. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and military assets remained intact throughout the procedure. The mission to recover the damaged trucks continued following the successful clearance.
According to Zagazola, this event underscores the persistent danger of hidden explosives utilized by insurgent groups within the North East. Military forces continue to conduct security patrols and clearance missions to ensure the safety of both soldiers and civilians navigating the area.
