Katsina State security forces successfully thwarted a major bandit raid on the Guga community in Bakori Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of more than 40 suspects. Dr. Nasir Muazu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the operation was a major success for regional security.
On the evening of July 26, a group of roughly 200 armed men, led by Idi Abasu Aiki and bolstered by Ado Aleru faction members from Zamfara, descended on Guga. Authorities noted this was a retaliatory strike, yet preemptive intelligence allowed security teams to mount an effective defense.
The ensuing gunfight inflicted heavy losses on the criminal gang. Eight senior commanders were neutralized, and leader Idi Abasu Aiki reportedly suffered critical gunshot wounds. The attackers had originally planned to target the Community Watch Corps before advancing into Bakori.
While the operation restored order, it involved a tragic loss for the state. Four local vigilantes were killed in an ambush while positioned away from the primary defense line. The state government has offered its condolences to the families of these volunteers.
Following the engagement, security forces conducted thorough area sweeps to seize discarded weaponry. Officials have declared that stability has returned to Guga, emphasizing that the government will continue to partner with security agencies to ensure public safety throughout Katsina.
