The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially rejected comments made by Rasaq Obe, a former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources. Obe had publicly claimed that President Bola Tinubu faces a risk of losing the 2027 presidential election in the state due to recent primary election outcomes. Obe, who failed to secure the party’s ticket for the Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency, was dismissed by state party chairman Hon. Kolawole Babatunde as speaking only for himself.
Babatunde clarified that while Obe holds the right to express his views, his statements do not align with the position of the state leadership or the government. The chairman insisted that internal disagreements following primaries are a standard part of the political process and are not severe enough to fracture the party’s foundation. He noted that the national leadership has already taken the necessary steps to address grievances regarding the primary results.
To mend internal divisions, the party has established a reconciliation committee led by Prince Biyi Poroye, the chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission. This committee is tasked with engaging dissatisfied stakeholders to foster unity. Addressing concerns about political stability, Babatunde emphasized the party’s strength, citing the popularity of President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s ‘OUR EASE’ program. The party aims to mobilize support through 84 registered groups across the state, with an ambitious goal of securing at least one million votes for President Tinubu in 2027.
