Soldiers serving with Operation HADIN KAI captured a man suspected of belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Munguno region of Borno State. During the arrest, the military confiscated a Starlink satellite internet terminal along with other communication devices.
Counter-insurgency specialist Zagazola Makama reported the incident via social media. The detention occurred around 3:05 p.m. this past Wednesday during a security sweep on the Maiduguri–Monguno Road. Members of the 212 Battalion stopped the individual while performing routine checks at the Delta One checkpoint after noticing his behavior.
The search yielded a Starlink unit, a router featuring six access points, a cellular phone, and a small sum of cash. Although the individual alleged he was merely running a local internet business, authorities remain skeptical. The nature of his transit and the equipment in his possession prompted immediate security concerns.
The suspect and the seized hardware have been moved to the Military Intelligence Brigade for thorough questioning. Officials aim to clarify if the items were intended for extremist logistics or communications. This interception is part of an ongoing mission by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle supply and tech networks linked to insurgent groups throughout the North-East.
