A targeted military drone strike in Borno State’s Marte Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of approximately 15 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the event, noting it occurred during a precision operation on the morning of July 21.
Intelligence gathered by a Guardian ISR platform identified three hidden vehicles and a group of militants taking cover beneath a tree near KLA Balia. Upon confirmation, the drone launched a strike that killed five individuals immediately. The impact triggered secondary blasts, raising the total estimated death toll to 15 insurgents.
While officials attempted a follow-up strike to destroy the identified vehicles, a laser targeting malfunction forced a suspension of that portion of the mission. Despite this technical hurdle, military leaders categorized the operation as a major victory that significantly degraded insurgent logistical capabilities. Further surveillance is underway, and Operation HADIN KAI continues its broader efforts to dismantle terrorist networks throughout the North-East.
