A police officer who died by suicide this past May has been exposed as a predatory rapist responsible for years of violent sexual assaults. BBC investigations confirm that PC Alan Greer committed these crimes for at least 14 years. His history of abuse was brought to light following a report from a woman who was raped in her Glasgow home in 2012 by the officer after she had initially contacted police to report an unrelated crime.
This disclosure launched a massive anti-corruption investigation by Police Scotland. Detectives have identified eight additional victims so far, including five sex workers attacked while Greer was off-duty. Greer, who was born in 1978 and joined the force in 2009, maintained a facade of normalcy for years while working as a response officer and later as a safety trainer. His family and peers reportedly had no knowledge of his criminal activity.
Investigators discovered that Greer used digital surveillance to monitor his 2012 victim, checking her crime files even while on leave. His behavior pattern—using police systems to track victims—eventually led anti-corruption units to identify him as the culprit. After a raid on his home in April, authorities seized devices containing thousands of graphic images and videos confirming his exploitation of hundreds of women. Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff described the findings as profoundly disturbing, noting that the inquiry remains ongoing as officials review thousands of files to determine the full extent of his violence.
