Members of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) within the Abia State Police Command have taken a man into custody following the circulation of a video showing him striking a woman. The incident, which occurred in the Ogbo Hill area of Aba, depicts the suspect repeatedly hitting the victim while threatening her life. In the footage, the woman is seen desperately asking for mercy while the attacker shouts threats in Igbo.
Led by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, the VCRU located and apprehended the man on Saturday. He is currently being held in police custody. Anastasia Odochi Uchenna, a candidate for the Aba Central Constituency, publicly denounced the violence, labeling the act as heinous. She urged authorities to ensure the suspect faces legal consequences and requested medical support for the victim.
DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
