Prof. Sodiq Abubakar Gombe, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, announced that a Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission to accept Dr. Adebayo Ajala as the party’s official candidate for the August 8, 2026, Osun State governorship election. Gombe shared this update on Wednesday at the party’s national headquarters, describing the ruling as a significant win for the current leadership.
The party is currently waiting to obtain the Certified True Copy of the court order so it can be formally delivered to the electoral body. Gombe expressed confidence that internal disputes have been resolved and called on the commission to comply with the legal decision. He emphasized that the court confirmed the legitimacy of the primary election overseen by both the party and the electoral commission.
This development follows a previous June 24 court order that had recognized Salawu-Adeniyi Mustapha Olaitan, a candidate supported by the former chairman Shehu Gabam, as the party’s nominee. Meanwhile, legal proceedings regarding financial mismanagement allegations against Gabam are slated to resume next month.
