An armed assault in Omoku, the administrative center of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area in Rivers State, resulted in the deaths of a local security leader and three women. The event occurred Monday evening on Oba Road.
Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, who served as the Zonal Commander for the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), was identified as the primary target. According to OSPAC spokesperson Nkem Godknows, the gunmen fired upon Nwaocha while he was resting near his home with his sister and her companion. The shooting claimed the lives of the commander and three women instantly, while two others were wounded and are currently hospitalized.
The attack triggered widespread fear among local residents, causing many to shut down businesses and seek shelter. In response, Godknows urged the community to stay composed, stating that OSPAC is cooperating with official security forces to identify the shooters. He also highlighted the lack of financial support and welfare provided to OSPAC volunteers, calling for increased public backing.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe, speaking for the Rivers State Police Command, described the act as distressing. The police force has promised a thorough investigation to ensure the suspects are caught and prosecuted, while patrols have been stepped up to restore order in the area.
