Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially launched a Multi-Agency Task Force dedicated to tackling drug abuse. Simultaneously, he signed an Executive Order designed to eliminate thuggery and associated criminal behavior within the state, as reported by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that substance abuse is a severe danger to the youth, noting its role in fostering violence, damaging family units, and destabilizing the economy. The new task force is charged with managing the state’s strategy through active enforcement, intelligence sharing, public education, and robust rehabilitation efforts.
The administration has promised full logistical and financial support for the task force, ensuring it maintains the independence needed to function effectively. Furthermore, the governor mentioned plans to bolster existing rehabilitation centers for both men and women to better assist those in recovery.
Regarding the new Executive Order, Governor Yusuf stated it creates a necessary legal mechanism to dismantle criminal gangs and suppress political violence. He called upon Kano residents to assist by sharing relevant information with law enforcement to help restore peace and prosperity.
Task force chairman Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado expressed his gratitude for the appointment, pledging that his team would operate with complete integrity and professional rigor. He emphasized that the group intends to collaborate with traditional leaders, religious figures, and community organizations to secure a safer future for the state’s residents.
