The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed that Mrs. Epelle-Asemota Osayuki is their official candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District. According to a statement by Agada Theophilus, the party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communication, the issues regarding her candidacy particulars in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) records are the result of an administrative mistake by the commission. While INEC published the correct name and details, it erroneously attached the wrong photograph and credentials to her profile. The NDC insists that all proper documentation was submitted in compliance with electoral laws.
Addressing concerns about Osayuki’s background, the party rejected claims regarding her eligibility based on ethnicity. They noted she has deep roots in Benin, a long career in the Edo public service, and has held roles such as Chairperson of the Principals’ Association of Edo and leadership positions within the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools and the Trade Union Congress. Having won the party primary, she is considered a legitimate representative of the NDC’s commitment to diverse leadership.
The party also denied accusations of candidate imposition, clarifying that local leaders managed the primary process. While acknowledging that some members are dissatisfied with the results, the NDC has established a reconciliation committee and encourages unity as the election approaches.
