The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations from former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar that the 2026 Service-Wide Vote (SWV) is being utilized to finance President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Wednesday characterizing the claim as malicious and reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of government finance.
Morka noted that the former Vice President failed to offer any evidence for his assertion, suggesting the accusation was merely an attempt to incite the public and detract from the current administration’s progress. The APC clarified that the Service-Wide Vote is a standard budgetary tool used across global economies to address government obligations and unexpected costs that emerge following the approval of the yearly budget. It is not an illicit fund as portrayed by Atiku.
The APC spokesperson further criticized Atiku for spreading misinformation, arguing that the former official lacks a coherent vision for the country. Instead, the statement highlighted the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda. Key achievements mentioned include the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the introduction of a new minimum wage, the Consumer Credit Scheme, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative. The APC asserted that its focus remains on economic reform and infrastructure development rather than responding to unfounded political rhetoric.
