Ipswich Town has finalized the acquisition of Moroccan defender Issa Diop from Fulham for an undisclosed transfer fee. The 29-year-old athlete has committed to a contract running through the summer of 2030. Diop, who earned five caps during Morocco’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals, offers substantial top-flight expertise to the newly promoted Ipswich side, having appeared in 173 Premier League matches for West Ham and Fulham.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Diop stated that he recognized the club’s stature and felt confident that it was the ideal environment for his career progression. Following his transfer from Toulouse to West Ham in 2018, he spent four seasons there before a 2022 move to Fulham for £15 million. Although he made 96 appearances for the Cottagers, he saw limited starting opportunities last season.
Diop is the sixth addition to the Ipswich squad this summer, joining recent arrivals including Abdul Fatawu from Leicester, record signing Emersonn, and players like Cedric Kipre, Chuba Akpom, and Kayne van Oevelen.
