A sorrowful rescue mission concluded in Yancibi Village, located within the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where a father and his teenage child were found dead inside a dormant, dry well.
The deceased, 45-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi and his 15-year-old daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, reportedly slipped into the pit on a Tuesday evening. The Tsanyawa branch of the Kano State Fire Service was alerted on July 21 and rushed to the site, but poor visibility and hazardous conditions halted their efforts until the following day.
Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the state fire service, confirmed that a specialized team from the main office eventually retrieved the two victims. Though they were pulled out, medical personnel pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. The bodies have since been transferred to the village leader, Shamsu Sani, for funeral rites.
Investigators believe the incident began when the girl fell into the well. Her father jumped in to save her but became trapped himself. In response to the event, the fire service issued a formal warning to the public, advising citizens against entering deep wells without proper safety gear and trained professional assistance.
