Police Inspector Slain in Suspected Armed Herder Assault at Benue Checkpoint

An inspector was killed during an attack by suspected armed herders on a joint security checkpoint in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

A police officer lost his life during an assault on a joint security checkpoint in Uzer, located in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack, attributed to armed herders, targeted a site manned by police and military personnel.

The ambush triggered a rapid response from mobile police units and soldiers from Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke, based in Ayilamo. Upon realizing the security forces were closing in, the assailants retreated into the surrounding brush. Authorities initiated a search operation in the vicinity to pursue the attackers and stabilize the area. It was during this follow-up mission that the deceased officer was discovered. The body of the inspector has been moved to the Ayilamo Hospital mortuary for formal processing.

DSP Peter Aondongu, the Benue State Police spokesperson, verified the fatality. He stated that the command is mourning the loss of their colleague and that efforts to apprehend those responsible for the violence are currently active. Security agencies have significantly increased patrols across Uzer, Ayilamo, and neighboring border regions to prevent further incidents.
