Two farmers were kidnapped by unknown armed men in Ifira, a farming area located in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State. According to reports, the victims were captured while traveling to their farmland and were subsequently dragged into the surrounding bush.
A relative of one of the farmers stated that the families have informed both the police and the local security group, Amotekun. The families claim the kidnappers have reached out to demand a N10 million payment to secure the farmers’ freedom. The relative urged security forces and the government to prioritize the safe recovery of the two men.
DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the Ondo State Police spokesperson, acknowledged that the Isua Akoko Divisional Headquarters received a report regarding the missing individuals. He announced that a task force consisting of police officers, military personnel, Amotekun agents, local hunters, and other community groups has been sent to the Oke-Ifira/Idogun forest area to conduct a search.
While confirming that rescue operations are active, Abayomi clarified that the police have no information regarding a ransom request. He encouraged the public to share any useful tips with authorities to help locate the victims and capture the culprits, promising that all leads will be kept secret. He also called on locals to stay vigilant and maintain order during the ongoing operation.
