Investment group headed by Amit Bhatia eyes Liverpool minority stake

A consortium led by Amit Bhatia is in preliminary discussions to purchase a minority stake in Liverpool FC, with potential valuations reaching upwards of $6bn.

A group of investors spearheaded by British-Indian entrepreneur Amit Bhatia is pursuing a minority share in Liverpool Football Club. Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently concluded an 18-year tenure as director and co-owner of QPR.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of Liverpool, confirmed that a consortium under Bhatia’s management has reached out regarding a strategic investment. While discussions are ongoing, an official agreement has yet to be reached.

Should the deal move forward, it would mirror the 2023 transaction where Dynasty acquired a minority interest in the club for a sum between £82m and £164m. Fenway Sports Group, which acquired Liverpool for £300m in 2010 when the team faced potential insolvency, could see the club valued at over $6bn under the proposed terms with Bhatia’s group.
