On Monday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) questioned Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila regarding an investigation into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). Legal counsel Jiti Ogunye stated that his client met with the commission at its Abuja office at 3:00 p.m. to provide testimony. This action followed President Bola Tinubu’s order for all relevant individuals to assist in the probe.
Ogunye confirmed that Gbajabiamila cooperated fully with investigators before returning to his official responsibilities. This inquiry follows President Tinubu’s July 2 directive for the ICPC to investigate the council’s operations within 30 days due to concerns over its legal legitimacy. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is conducting its own separate probe into the matter.
During a recent legislative hearing, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, noted that her office rejected the council’s structural requests due to missing documentation and legal irregularities. Additionally, a representative from the Central Bank of Nigeria reported that while two accounts were opened for the council, they remained dormant with no financial activity. The ICPC has not yet provided further updates on its findings or potential future charges.
