Pastor Remmy Hazzan, a former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and a cleric at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has defended the All Progressives Congress’s choice to maintain a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. Speaking on the Eagle 102.5 FM program Frontline, Hazzan argued that this political arrangement poses no threat to the religious fabric of Nigeria.
Hazzan, an APC member, rejected the notion that the party intends to sideline Christians. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s long-standing marriage to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, an ordained pastor, as clear proof of the president’s commitment to religious harmony. According to Hazzan, the decision was driven by complex political dynamics rather than religious favoritism, specifically noting the unique challenge of selecting a candidate when a Southern Muslim leads the ticket.
Addressing the broader political landscape, Hazzan emphasized that electoral success hinges on competence and integrity rather than faith. He encouraged citizens to focus on individual character, suggesting that the most qualified people should lead regardless of their religious affiliation. Furthermore, he urged Christians to engage actively in governance, arguing that public office is an opportunity to implement moral values and clean up political systems from the inside.
On the topic of national economic policy, Hazzan acknowledged that the reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration have caused short-term struggles for many citizens. However, he maintained that these sacrifices are essential for long-term recovery and urged the public to allow the administration sufficient time to yield positive results.
