The African Democratic Congress has asked President Bola Tinubu to apply the security tactics that led to the safe recovery of pupils and teachers in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area to other parts of the nation. The party identified regions like Kwara and Borno as areas where similar intervention is urgently required.
National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi praised the successful Oyo operation but questioned why such measures are not consistently used elsewhere. The request follows remarks by the President, who confirmed his administration chose intelligence-driven operations over paying ransom to secure the release of the hostages.
The ADC argued that if the government possesses the tools and willpower to resolve kidnapping without negotiating in one state, it must extend that same effort to citizens in states like Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, and Benue. The party emphasized that families in these regions are still enduring the agony of uncertainty while waiting for their relatives to return.
By rejecting negotiations in the Oriire incident, the President set a precedent that the ADC believes should become the national standard. The party urged the federal government to prioritize equal protection for all Nigerians, noting that the government’s response time and effort should not fluctuate based on the location of the tragedy.
