A severe windstorm, paired with intense rainfall, struck multiple communities within the Kwara Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in four deaths and widespread damage. Alongside the fatalities, many residents sustained injuries as homes were destroyed or damaged.
The storm on Saturday also caused significant harm to public facilities, specifically impacting a local primary school and a medical center. The affected areas include Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya, and neighboring settlements, which now face a housing crisis affecting hundreds of displaced families.
In response, the Sokoto Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) launched an assessment mission to evaluate the wreckage. This process is intended to guide the distribution of aid and emergency supplies to those in need. NEMA has committed to collaborating with local and state government bodies to ensure that relief efforts effectively address the humanitarian fallout of this tragedy.
