The Accord Party’s campaign council in Osun State is pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission to guarantee a transparent governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Senator Lere Oyewumi, who leads the Imole Campaign Council, emphasized the need for early action to resolve issues seen in past off-cycle elections.
During a media briefing in Osogbo, Oyewumi highlighted worries about the management of voter cards, ballot papers, and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System. He stated that these concerns stem from reports by observers regarding recent elections elsewhere. The council insists that INEC must secure all sensitive materials and audit its technology to prevent tampering.
Furthermore, the group called on the commission to issue a formal commitment to fairness to restore public confidence. Security agencies were also encouraged to investigate any threats to the process. As of now, INEC has provided no official comment regarding these demands.
