British prosecutors are seeking the extradition of brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate from the United States following the filing of 38 fresh criminal charges against them. US Marshals apprehended the pair in Miami on Saturday after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) initiated legal action regarding allegations of rape and sex trafficking.
Andrew, 39, and Tristan, 37, are dual British-US citizens who gained significant online notoriety. Both brothers maintain their innocence. They are scheduled to appear in federal court as authorities work to return them to the UK to face the judiciary.
The CPS disclosed that the new charges for Andrew include seven counts of rape, three counts of sexual exploitation trafficking, three counts of assault, and 19 charges related to indecent images and extreme pornography. Tristan faces additional accusations of two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and three counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation. These incidents allegedly occurred between 2010 and 2017.
Previously based in Romania, the brothers were permitted to travel to the US after legal restrictions were removed in 2025. While they also face ongoing investigations in Romania, the UK now seeks to hold them accountable for a total of 59 combined charges. Their legal representative, Joseph McBride, characterized the move as a politically motivated attack and expressed confidence that the brothers would be cleared by American courts.
